Despite the promise of mass humanitarian aid in Gaza on Wednesday, no food has yet reached the Palestinian population, according to the World Food Programme (WFP). “There are 2.1 million people that are in what we call food crisis, out of which a quarter of the Gazan population is actually at the risk of famine,” WFP Country Director Antoine Renard said. Following an 11-week blockade against aid in Gaza, mounting pressures worldwide pushed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to approve a flow of aid across the regional borders. As famine increases and Israeli strikes continue in northern Gaza, which killed more than 80 people Wednesday, thousands of Palestinians have been forced to evacuate, the United Nations said.
