"Mr. President, we have had a tremendous number of people... they're white farmers and they're fleeing South Africa," Trump told Ramaphosa. “People are fleeing South Africa for their own safety," Trump added and at one point dimmed the lights in the Oval Office to play a video of a communist politician playing a controversial anti-apartheid song that includes lyrics about killing a farmer. "Their land is being confiscated and in many cases they’re being killed," Trump said and added, "The number of people that want to leave South Africa because they feel they're going to be dead. Very sad." "I would say if there was Afrikaner farmer genocide, I can bet you these three gentlemen would not be here, including my Minister of Agriculture. He would not be with me," Ramaphosa said. Ramaphosa pushed back against Trump’s accusation and said South Africa has a multi-party democracy that allows people to express themselves and political parties to adhere to various policies.
