Jimmy Lai’s family says 20 years is a “death sentence” for pro-democracy activist

Lai’s son, Sebastien, said +the lengthy prison term amounts to a “death sentence’ for the 78-year-old, while his daughter said the family was “heartbroken” by the ruling. Lai, a fierce critic of Beijing, was convicted in December of conspiring with others to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security, and conspiracy to publish seditious articles. The United Nations Human Rights Office called for the verdict to be quashed and Lai to be released.
