Former Russian president warns the world not to let final US-Russia nuclear treaty expire

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/oWmNjXb Deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, suggested that if the New START treaty expired with no replacement or extension then the world should be concerned that the biggest nuclear powers will have no limits for the first time since the early 1970s. "I don't want to say that this immediately means a catastrophe and a nuclear war will begin, but it should still alarm everyone," Medvedev told Reuters in an interview at his residence outside Moscow. Arms control treaties, Medvedev said, play a key component not just in limiting the number of warheads but also verifying intentions and enshrine an element of trust between major nuclear powers.
