Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Marten Falls Chief Bruce Achneepineskum, and Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford elaborated on details of this agreement that includes nearly $40 million for critical community infrastructure, including funding for local jobs, materials, and equipment to tackle priority projects. “These roads, along with roads being upgraded near Arrow Land First Nation, will connect the Ring of Fire to the rest of the world and will connect Marten Falls and other communities in northern Ontario to economic opportunity and prosperity and better services,” the premier said. In return, the community will complete its environmental assessment on the Marten Falls Access Road by February with the hopes of beginning construction by Aug. 9, 2026.
