Indonesia's Semeru volcano eruption blankets village in mud, ash

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/IQlG9yn Residents of Sumbersari village in Indonesia's Lumajang Regency returned on Thursday to find their homes and roads ravaged by ash and mud in the devastating aftermath of Mount Semeru's eruption that triggered mass evacuations. "Mud flowed at a horrifying speed, at a speed of approximately half a kilometre in three minutes," 50-year-old villager Muhammad Kholil said, adding the eruption was "massive." Kholil was one of more than 900 villagers forced to flee their homes after authorities maintained the highest alert level following a series of 10 eruptions on Wednesday, which sent towering ash plumes into the air, and spewed lava and rocks up to 13 km down the slopes of Mount Semeru, officials reported.
