Deadly Hong Kong fire rips through residential complex, kills at least 36

Firefighters battled the blaze long into the night and struggled to get the situation under control as it spread to multiple buildings. Deputy Director of Fire Services Derek Armstrong Chan said, “The temperature inside the buildings is very high, so it's quite difficult for us to enter the building and go upstairs to conduct firefighting and rescue operations.” Thousands of distressed residents were evacuated from the 31-storey towers. One resident, Harry Cheung, expressed confusion over what comes next: “I don’t even know how I feel right now. Just taking things one step at a time. Now I’m just thinking about where I’m going to sleep tonight, because I probably won’t be able to go back home.“ Wang Fuk Court is comprised of eight blocks, providing close to 2,000 residential units.
