And across 49 pages, the government’s top lawyer laid out the argument explaining that denying Trump the ability to put tariffs on nearly every good imported into the United States could leave the country without any defences, in the event retaliatory actions are used by other countries. It’s an attempt to push back on the challengers, including some small businesses and various states that argue that this is presidential overreach. Global’s Reggie Cecchini reports.
