Poilievre blasts UNDRIP, says parties should vote against First Nation treaties that adopt it

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/BEUfP01 Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre lashed out at the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) during a press conference in Vancouver on Friday, arguing that it threatens Canada’s Parliamentary sovereignty and “rule of law.” The Conservative leader chided B.C. Premier David Eby over a so-called “modern” treaty it is negotiating with the Cowichan Tribes. Poilievre called for the Comox treaty to be put on hold, claiming it could “lead to 10 or 15, or maybe even 20 years of confusion and uncertainty that threatens the stability of British Columbia’s economy.” Poilievre urged all lawmakers, including Liberals and NDP, to vote against any First Nations treaties that adopt UNDRIP and accused the federal and B.C. governments of “politicizing” the issue of Indigenous title and property rights.
