CDC names Jim O'Neill interim director replacing Susan Monarez after controversial dismissal

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/CsXmgYP Jim O'Neill has been selected as the new interim CDC director after U.S. President Donald Trump fired his previous pick, Susan Monarez, to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The turmoil triggered rare bipartisan alarm as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tried to advance anti-vaccine policies that are contradicted by decades of scientific research. "There's a lot of trouble at CDC, and it's going to require getting rid of some people over the long term, in order for us to change the institutional culture, and bring back, pride and self esteem and make that agency, the stellar agency that it's always been," Kennedy said on Thursday. Monarez's firing was followed by the departure of three top officials at the agency, who had resigned over anti-vaccine policies and misinformation being pushed by Kennedy and his team.
