Babies born using DNA from 3 people can prevent genetic disease, UK scientists say

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/dFJDiLm Eight healthy babies were born in the U.K. from an experimental technique using DNA from a third person. The method helps mothers avoid passing on fatal genetic diseases to their children. This three-person in vitro fertilization technique, which is banned in the U.S., transfers pieces from inside the mother's fertilized egg - its nucleus, plus the nucleus of the father's sperm, into a healthy egg from a donor woman to eliminate the risk of a baby developing mitochondrial disorders. The technique has been legal in the UK for ten years, but proof that it is effective and leading to children being born without the disease is just beginning to emerge.
