Typhoon Dolphin batters Japan’s southern islands, bound for China

The typhoon, which has produced gusts over 200km/h, is headed towards China. The Category 1 typhoon prompted authorities to issue evacuation orders for nearly 26,000 residents in Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures and cancel more than 500 flights. It’s expected to make landfall sometime between late Sunday and early Monday, potentially bringing some areas more than 600mm of rain. China has shut various ports and halted ferries in anticipation of waves up to eight metres in height.
