Some of the food stocks, due to expire as early as July, will likely have to be destroyed or turned into animal feed. The dismantling of USAID and slashing of food aid by U.S. President Donald Trump comes as global hunger levels rise due to conflict and climate change. A former USAID chief nutritionist has estimated that the cuts to USAID will result in more than 163,000 additional deaths per year worldwide.
