This comes as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ramps up its offensive in the north as the ceasefire in Gaza continues. Speaking Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said troops will stay in some areas for up to a year, preventing displaced Palestinians from returning to refugee shelters, including the Jenin Refugee Camp — which has housed thousands of Palestinians since 1953. As to why they have decided on an increased military presence, Israel says it intends to crack down on militancy amid a rise in attacks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this Sunday. “For the first time in decades in Judea and Samaria, we sent in tanks,” he said, using the biblical names for Israel and the West Bank. “This means one thing: we are fighting terrorism by all means and anywhere,” he added.
