Mark Carney delivers remarks at ‘Forever Canadian’ rally ahead of Alberta referendum | LIVE

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/6aKl4CV Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to deliver remarks at a 'Forever Canadian' rally in Calgary on Thursday. Carney's appearance comes just days before Albertans are set to vote on a provincial referendum — which includes a question on whether the province should begin the process to hold a vote on separating from Canada. Elections Alberta said Wednesday that a total of 174,532 people voted on the first of five advance polling days ahead of the Oct. 19 vote, with roughly 418,000 mail-in ballots already approved by Elections Alberta. During an exclusive interview with Global Calgary Thursday morning, Carney shared his own views on the referendum, while calling for national unity amid the Canada-U.S. trade war, which has prompted federal efforts to establish new international trade partners in the last year. The Liberal prime minister also drew parallels between Alberta’s upcoming referendum and the "Brexit" referendum in 2016. “Alberta at the heart of Canada is stronger. Canada is stronger because of Alberta,” Carney said, “it has a bigger impact because Alberta's part of Canada and I'm just excited about the opportunities for this province and for this country," Carney said.
