Paris's Louvre Museum reopens gallery after heist; jewellery not on display

The gallery reopened without the jewels that once formed its main attraction. Those pieces, including the famed Regent diamond, will eventually be displayed in a separate high-security area of the museum, Louvre director Christophe Leribault said. "We are back in the Apollo Gallery, which had been closed since Oct. 19, 2025," Leribault told reporters. While the Crown Jewels would no longer be exhibited there, he said the change offered visitors a chance to rediscover the gallery's architecture and decoration. The stolen items remain missing, apart from a crown belonging to Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, which was later found damaged and is being restored. Leribault said the museum was preparing a dedicated high-security room before the jewels could return to public display. Four people suspected of direct involvement in the robbery have been charged and placed in custody, while the investigation continues.
