“We don’t need anything that Canada has”: Trump says he’s not planning to renew CUSMA deal

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/A9WsxT8 Three weeks before the review deadline for the longstanding Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), U.S. President Donald Trump said he’s “not looking to renew” the free trade agreement. “I'm not looking to renew it,” Trump told a reporter in the Oval Office on Wednesday. “The primary reason I made the deal is that NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) was the worst trade deal I've ever seen, and I made it better,” he added. After speaking negatively about the NAFTA deal — which was superseded and replaced by CUSMA in 2020 — Trump said, “we’ll see if we do something.” As of this writing, the U.S. and Canada have yet to plan negotiations for the mandatory CUSMA review, amid a strained relationship — though Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc paid a visit to Washington earlier in the month with efforts to push for formal discussions. Mexico, on the other hand, had officials meet with their U.S. counterparts last week.
