https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/HxeC5sF Canadian Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon paid a visit to Kingston, Ont. on Monday to pitch the historic city as a potential stop on Alto’s upcoming high-speed-rail project across the country.
Not included in the initial infrastructure proposal, MacKinnon said the government was “acting on what we heard” after demand from locals to involve Kingston.
The project has garnered vocal opposition in rural parts of eastern Ontario and in Mirabel, Que., where critics say the line would slice through their properties and force expropriations. MacKinnon, however, promises Alto will “proceed with extreme sensitivity” and have the “least possible impact” on landowners.
The eighth stop on the 60-metre-wide railway corridor would likely add time to the overall trip and costs to the project, raising further questions about the budget as well as passenger and revenue projections.
