“Persecution of journalists unacceptable”: Canada FM calls for immediate release of Jimmy Lai

The 78-year-old Hong Kong pro-democracy activist was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday, after being convicted in December of conspiring with others to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security and conspiracy to publish seditious articles. In the House of Commons Monday, Anand reiterated Canada's position on the matter to her Chinese counterpart, saying, “the persecution of journalists, of media workers, of activists is unacceptable.”
