One of world's smallest dinosaur fossils discovered in Argentina

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/0N46hLD Scientists have discovered one of the world’s smallest known dinosaurs in Argentina’s Patagonia region, where massive species like the eight-ton Giganotosaurus and the 70-ton Argentinosaurus once roamed 95 million years ago. The newly described fossil, named Alnashetri cerropoliciensis and nicknamed “Alna,” was about crow-sized and weighed approximately 0.7 kilograms. The well-preserved skeleton shows the dinosaur probably hunted small animals such as lizards, snakes, mammals and invertebrates. Alna was a nearly fully grown, four-year-old female that lived in a desert environment. After death, her body was quickly covered by a sand dune, accounting for the exceptional preservation that allowed researchers to conduct detailed microscopic bone studies. "Alnashetri is an adult dinosaur, about the size of a chicken or a crow," said paleontologist Alberto Apesteguia.
