Trump, Israel hurting Iran protesters' aspirations: Expert

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/r6sWJRA Nader Hashemi, an associate professor of Middle East and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University, says the breadth and depth of the protests in Iran have been growing since they began about two weeks ago, ignited by rising inflation. Hashemi says that support from the U.S. and Israel for Iranian protesters is "fundamentally hurting the cause of the protest" and is "a net loss for democratic aspirations for the people of Iran," because it plays into the strengths of the Iranian regime. "Trump would love to cut a deal with the current Iranian regime if perhaps the Supreme Leader could be removed and there could be access to American oil companies into Iran. "Trump is not very interested in the question of democracy in Iran. He's very much interested in what I think really drives him and that is his own personal ego, but also his own personal and family's business interests," Hashemi said.
