Valery Gerasimov, chief of the general staff of Russia’s armed forces, told President Vladimir Putin Sunday that the missile travelled 14,000 kilometres over a period of fifteen hours. Russia says the 9M730 Burevestnik – dubbed the SSC-X-9 Skyfall by NATO – is “invincible” to missile defence systems, has an unlimited range and an unpredictable flight path. Jeffrey Lewis, director of the non-proliferation program at Middlebury Institute, said Sunday that while Russia is “crazy enough” to build a nuclear-powered missile, they are not the only country that has that capability.
