From national defence spending commitments to maritime shipping expansion to energy and critical minerals, there are a lot of projects of “national interest” that Carney has announced will be part of the upcoming budget. Carney has been transparent in saying his government will run a deficit in the upcoming budget, but stresses that it will be worth it because these projects will add value to the economy in the long run. He has also said Canadians need to be prepared for “sacrifices” ahead of the federal budget, but isn’t saying yet what those will be.
