https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/4tUKI6f California voters will be asked to approve congressional maps drawn by Democrats after the state legislature passed a package of three bills Thursday calling for a special election on Nov. 4. The redistricting package—aimed at giving Democrats five additional seats in the U.S. Congress—counters a partisan advantage that former President Donald Trump hoped to gain with a similar Republican plan to redraw maps in Texas. The Senate approved the Democrats' redrawn map on a party-line 30-9 vote after four hours of political debate. The newly proposed map will appear on the ballot, giving voters a chance to review the changes before the fall election. Governor Gavin Newsom, who leads a Democratic majority in both houses of the California legislature, is seeking voter support for the plan. If approved, the election would neutralize the Trump-backed Texas bill, which is designed to flip five Democratic seats to Republican control in the U.S. House of Representatives.
