Air Canada strike: Ottawa orders binding arbitration to resolve labour dispute

She urged the Canada Industrial Relations Board to facilitate a resolution by implementing final and binding arbitration, along with extending the current collective agreement until a new one is established. "Now is not the time to take risks with our economy. A work stoppage would cause thousands of Canadians to be stranded abroad and across this country, and this is simply unacceptable," Hajdu said. The strike officially began just before 1 a.m. ET on Saturday. Air Canada locked out its agents about 30 minutes later due to the strike action.
