Chinnaswamy cricket stadium on Thursday morning after 11 people were killed in a stampede triggered by fan celebrations the previous evening. Thousands of people showed up to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) first Indian Premier League title win on Wednesday evening. As the celebrations proceeded, some people outside the stadium without passes tried to push through the gates, creating further chaos. On Thursday, only piles of shoes and a few damaged barricades could be seen lining the streets surrounding the stadium. Residents were left wondering why organizers had chosen such a small venue for the celebrations. At least 11 people were killed and 47 were injured in the incident, according to Karnataka state authorities.
