During the meeting, Trump seemed to take a veiled jab at Freeland, calling her a “terrible person” and saying Freeland “tried to take advantage” of the USMCA talks. Freeland currently serves on Carney's cabinet as Minister of Transport and Minister of Internal Trade. Carney also made reference to "Governor" Trudeau, saying the former Prime Minister of Canada once confided in him that a 25 per cent flat tariff on Canada's auto sector would "be the end of Canada."
