Only hours after Trump said negotiations were “going well,” Iran shot down a U.S. army helicopter. The pilots were later rescued with a drone boat, which was the first time that’s ever been done. The event pushed Trump in a different direction, vowing the U.S. would respond. “We have struck Iranian bases before during the ceasefire, without ending the ceasefire,” says retired army officer Peter Mansoor.
