Carney's shifting position on Iran war overshadows trade tour across Asia

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/9UsQF27 Mark Carney had hoped the focus of his trip to India and Australia would be focused on trade diversification. However, Canada’s shifting position on Iran has so far overshadowed the tour. Carney previously stated he had no intention of getting involved militarily in Iran, on Wednesday, he took a new approach. In a joint press conference with Australian PM Anthony Albanese, the Canadian prime minister stressed the difference between the offensive action taken by the United States and Israel and potential defensive actions in trying to assist countries subject to Iranian attacks. “One can never categorically rule out participation. We will stand by our allies when it makes sense,” he said. Carney will land in Japan on Friday afternoon local time as his final stop in his 10-day tour across Asia. Mackenzie Gray reports.
