Drone footage shows dramatic flooding in Portugal as storms lash Iberian Peninsula

Swathes of Spain and Portugal are on high alert as heavy rain and strong winds battered the Iberian Peninsula, bringing down trees and disrupting travel in the region. In Portugal, a weather phenomenon known as an “atmospheric river" – a wide corridor of concentrated water carrying massive amounts of water from the tropics – brought new downpours. Authorities evacuated approximately 3,000 residents in the country’s north. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere said Storm Oriana – a separate Atlantic depression –wouldn’t impact mainland Portugal directly but would bring heavy rainfall across much of the country through Friday.
