Though the reasoning is still under investigation, officials say one high-speed train derailed before being struck by an oncoming locomotive. “We are going to get to the truth, we are going to find the answer,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said during a Monday press conference, adding that the details will be shared with “absolute transparency and absolute clarity.” One survivor – who traveled with her since-hospitalized sister and now-missing dog – recounted the harrowing moments immediately after the collision, saying, “You could see them [passengers] dying.” The Spanish Red Cross has established an attention centre for people looking for information on the fatal collision or any information about their missing relatives, friends, or even pets who were aboard either of the trains.
