Anand said Carney received an “explicit” invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping and that the two countries will discuss their trade relationship as Canada seeks to “diversify” its non U.S. trading partners as well as “other opportunities for collaboration.” Asked about past differences, Anand stated that “this is a new government with a new prime minister, a new foreign policy in a new geopolitical environment,” and that the prime minister was there to "recalibrate" the relationship between the two countries.
