Initially targeted for the 2027 fiscal year, Takaichi told fellow Parliamentarians in Tokyo on Friday that the government would aim to achieve this by current fiscal year through March. "Japan and the United States will work together in partnership to raise the deterrence and response capabilities of our alliance in order to tackle the issues we face,” Takaichi said. The new target underscores the Liberal Democratic Party leader’s commitment to what she calls “proactive” spending in efforts to stimulate economic growth in Japan – something she argues is a prerequisite for sound fiscal policy.
