Speaking on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Joly said that Canada is engaging with the U.S. in the face of looming tariffs, adding that tariffs would result in a higher unemployment rate and the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. Trump has said he will impose a 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminum and a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian goods. The president has also promised reciprocal tariffs to match any tariffs placed on American goods by other countries. Joly warned that Trump should be “taken seriously” and urged governments to work together.
