Lawyer for woman suing Cornell University, on-campus fraternity over alleged gang rape speaks out

The woman, referred to as Jane Doe, reported the incident to Cornell police about three weeks later, and at least 12 internal hearings were held by school officials in relation to the alleged incident. Doe’s attorney, Thomas Giuffra, says no arrests were made. The accused got what he calls a “slap on the wrist,” with only two of the men being expelled, and others receiving suspensions, workshops, or essay assignments. “All the things in place to protect her were not there,” Giuffra said, acknowledging Cornell’s history with sexual violence, and the “failures of every single guardrail along the way.” The former student dropped out of school following the incident.
