Canada’s Muslim council commends feds amid trade ban on goods from “illegal” Israeli settlements

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/CGxcXf5 One day after the Government of Canada announced — in solidarity with the United Kingdom and France — that it had implemented a trade ban on goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) has spoken out. “Although this step should have been taken long ago, Sept. 8, 2026, will mark a monumental day in Canada’s history. Future generations of Canadians will use this day a as precedent for Canadas commitment to upholding values of human rights, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the NCCM’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer Ahmad al Qadi said at a Wednesday press conference. “This is not a fringe position. It is the mainstream of international law finally being enforced through policy. It is a move that many Canadians support,” former special representative on combatting Islamophobia of Canada Amira Elghawaby added. The council says the federal government's decision is grounded in principles of international law. Israel, however, has responded by giving the U.K. 30 days to close its consulate in east Jerusalem.
