Speaking at the joint press conference in Ottawa, Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez said Mexico hosts only one Chinese automaker and relies on Chinese imports "for mainly the lowest cost vehicle sector of our market."
"We implemented some new tariffs in January as part of a broader strategy of industrial relocalization," Velasco said, adding that his country was looking for ways to coordinate with Canada and the US regarding tariffs.
Anand reinforced the regional alliance, stating that Canada remains focused on "securing access for Canadian businesses, Canadian workers, to two of our largest trading partners."
