"I can't breathe," Nowak told police responding to the violent altercation. The killer, meanwhile — 23-year-old Sikh man Vickrum Digwa — alleged Nowak was responsible for a racist attack, despite stabbing the teen moments earlier.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said there were "serious questions" to answer about the case, including whether allegations of racism influenced police decision-making.
Southampton protesters clashed with police, throwing objects as officers responded with pepper spray and riot shields.
On the protests, Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage warned public anger could worsen if trust in policing continues to erode, while Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the case as "disturbing and tragic" in Parliament.
