Authorities were called Friday evening about the baby’s mother, who was in life-threatening condition after having seemingly just given birth. She was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition.
“Two of the four [suspects] were charged with concealing a body, obstruction, and indignity to remains,” Halifax Regional Police Public Information Officer Martin Cromwell said in a Monday update.
Though Cromwell confirmed the suspects are not known to police, it was confirmed that a 23-year-old man – who is a relative of the baby’s mother – and his 26-year-old wife were the two charged and were set to appear in Halifax provincial court on Monday.
It is believed the mother’s condition is the result of a medical emergency rather than physical violence. An investigation is ongoing.
