https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/y8fXm3G Israeli and Lebanese envoys met in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday in a rare diplomatic encounter between government representatives that haven’t engaged in decades due to a state of war since Israel’s establishment in 1948. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the talks were a “historic opportunity” that marked the beginning of a process to try and bring peace to the region. Meanwhile, many Lebanese citizens displaced by the ongoing conflict expressed uncertainty about the talks. “Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are a strategic mistake, which the Lebanese people will pay the price for. First of all, I don’t know why the rush. The war is still at the beginning. Or (if) the war is at the end, it is a big mistake that Lebanon and its people will pay the price for,” one Beirut citizen said. Israel's campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon has become a linchpin to any agreement with Iran that seeks an end to the wider conflict.
