Carney is visiting Australia as part of a 10-day trip that first brought him to India, and will end with a visit to Japan. In Australia, the Canadian prime minister has reiterated the argument from his headline-making speech in Davos, that middle powers should band together, adding that Canada and Australia share the advantages of legitimacy and trust. In a speech at the Lowy Institute think tank in Sydney, Carney suggested the two countries partner on more defence projects, such as those involving AI and aerospace, and work together to build links between the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the European Union. He said accomplishing that would create a new trading bloc of 1.5 billion people.
