US launches “large-scale strikes” on Venezuela, captures Maduro and his wife

Maduro’s detention occurred early Saturday following overnight “large-scale strikes” across Venezuela – primarily in Caracas. Addressing the nation during an afternoon press conference, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would “run” Venezuela until they can perform a “safe, proper and judicious transition” of government. Maduro and Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York on charges including narco terrorism conspiracy. Washington has not made such a direct intervention in Latin America since the invasion of Panama in 1989 to depose military leader Manuel Noriega, over similar allegations.
