Spain suggests Israel, Russia be banned from global competitions, threatens Eurovision exit

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/IY5Rfcv Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for both Israel and Russia to be banned from international competitions amid the countries’ respective wars in Gaza and Ukraine. “Until the barbaric acts end, neither Russia nor Israel should participate in any more international competition,” Sanchez said Monday, just one day after violent protests erupted in Madrid and put a swift end to the final leg of the Vuelta a Espana cycling race. In a similar fashion Tuesday, Spanish state broadcaster RTVE’s board voted to withdraw from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest so long as Israel takes part. On Tuesday, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began the next step of their Gaza City incursion – a ground assault – weeks after forcing thousands of Palestinians out of the urban hub they once considered safe. Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has killed nearly 65,000 people in the Gaza Strip. This comes as the IDF continues its mission to destroy the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
