Air Canada union takes aim at Feds as company seeks binding arbitration

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChLtXXpo4Ge1ReTEboVvTDg https://ift.tt/1qnkiBt After Canadian Job Minister Patty Hajdu asked the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) to respond to Air Canada’s request for her to send the two parties to binding arbitration, the union representing the airline’s flight attendants has responded with frustration. “The government has been clear their option is that unpaid work is a matter for the negotiation table,” Wesley Lesosky, the President of CUPE’s Air Canada Component told reporters Thursday. “The government cannot change positions now and intervene on Air Canada's behalf to force us to work for free and crush our members’ chartered rights,” he added. Hajdu called the decision by CUPE to issue a strike notice and Air Canada giving notice of a lockout on Wednesday a “disappointing development” for Canadians. This as more than 100,000 passengers’ flights will be cancelled come Saturday morning. CUPE President Mark Hancock took aim at Hajdu, suggesting she delivered the “no” from Air Canada to giving flight attendants appropriate compensation. “Not once have I seen a minister reply on behalf of a company. And that sends a real bad message not only to our flight attendants, [it] also sends a real bad message to the labor movement generally,” Hancock said. “The company is counting on this government to save the day.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #Canada #AirCanada
